As we search google for information, knowing how to narrow our search helps. So I'm going to list what I use most often. You are welcome to list more here.

Using quotes to your advantage.

Lets say your search is a phrase you would like to appear in every hit you get on google.

1) "the sky is blue" = This makes sure that every hit has that "exact" phrase in it.

http://www.google.co..... sky is blue"

But what if you just want the words to appear in any order?

2) "the" "sky" "is" "blue" = all words still appearing, but in any order but not always the exact phrase.

What if I only want certain word to appear everytime, while other words are not as important?

3) the "sky" is "blue" = Sky and blue have to appear in every search hit, but the and is, is random. And there is not exact phrasing. More than one word inside of quotes makes an exact phrase for each search.

Also, changing the order of how the words appear in the search also gets different results. Putting the word blue before sky will get you different results. You search words don't have to make sense like a sentence does. For google does not read, it only takes key words and searches for them. And pays more attention to those words you put in quotes.

Add your search engine tips so we can all do better searches.
