Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the entire Bible and in just these 2 versus we are told about Gods heart toward mankind, His purpose toward us, the truth and reliability of His word and faithfulness toward us and why ALL people should Praise Him for it. (This is in the Amplified Version.)

1 O PRAISE the Lord, all you nations! Praise Him, all you people!(A)
2 For His mercy and loving-kindness are great toward us, and the truth and faithfulness of the Lord endure forever. Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)

Why is this a treasure? Here's a couple reasons.

If you add every chapter from Genesis to Psalm 116 you get 594 chapters.
If you add every chapter from Psalm 118 to Revelation 22 you get 594 chapters.
Stuck right in the middle is Psalm 117 which so "happens" to be the shortest chapter. "Strange coincidense"

Psalms is considered to be the "Heart" of Gods word. If you happen to add 594+594 you get 1188. If you add the middle chapter (Psalm 117) you get 1189 chapters.

If you look at Psalms 118:8 (1188) and Psalms 118:9 (1189) you'll notice two verses that almost repeat themselves one after the other. Verses which gives Believers some very foundational advice.

Psalm 118:8
It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Psalm 118:9
It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

And how do we trust in the Lord if we didn't have His word, the Bible?

Oh and one more thing. Psalm 118 happens to be between the Shortest and Longest chapters in the Bible. "Another coincidense" :P

Well it must simply be a coincidence Seth. Either that or it was those sneaky Essenes. Those scoundrels were always up to something! Just ask Dan Brown!!!

Yes, the Essenes were amazingly brilliant!

I failed to mention that Psalm 118:8 just so happens to be the middle verse in the entire Bible as well.

Some people think that Biblical numerology is connected to pagan beliefs. I don't think so. There is to much of this stuff that is there that would take a few lifetimes for even several people to write.
