Atheist Honesty & Evidence For God

I hate to do this, but I should depart from this discussion. If you want a little more background on this approach this short video featuring Chris Hitchens and Doug Wilson was eye-opening.

In that first quote, which part is unclear?

And to note: "Innocent" implies a standard of right and wrong. Are those innocent people only innocent because you sympathize with them or is there an objective standard?

Pathos alone won't save the fact that human action carries moral weight while animal action does not. But according to naturalism it follows: All Animals are Amoral All Humans are Animals Therefore, All Humans are Amoral

Before we derail, the point is this: Atheists who believe rape is wrong in all cases are in no position to ask for physical proof of immaterial, untestable, unscientific truths. They accept moral truth by faith (but not blind faith). Asking where morals come from is a separate issue. The double-standard of faith is troubling.

You innately know rape is wrong. Notice that instead of agreeing with me that rape is wrong, you pretend to honestly question the standard.

    1. Thank you! I did not know/realize there was a more refined etiquette for flowcharts. 2. No matter the history taught by the societies leaders, the point behind the sloppy flowchart is the existence of the immaterial truths apart from scientific detection. This means that if our survival, as an individual or as a society, is morally neutral - whether or not we've found better ways to live. Further, science provides no moral ground for one species' well-being over another. Yet, ( to paraphrase WLC from the Sam Harris debate) great white sharks forcibly copulate, but don't rape. Dogs kill each other, but don't murder. Eagles take another's catch but don't steal. Humans are capable of crimes, but no other species is. As the syllogism goes: All Animals are Amoral All Humans are Animals Therefore, All Humans are Amoral Survival has nothing to do with right and wrong. And how a rule came to be does not give it more or less objective moral weight.

On top of that- they can't even justify subjectivism over legalism ( or objectivism for that matter).

Personal beliefs goes back to autonomy i.e. subjectivism. Even if they only profess to apply the rules to themselves (which they don't) they still can't logically deduce via naturalism why they picked the rules they did. And survival isn't a moral issue. Again, one species surviving and another one dying off carries no moral weight.

Atheist Honesty & Evidence For God

Clarifying: History and "what works" is interpreted by society. Its conclusions and laws are implemented by society - right or wrong. But that derives from societies' presuppositions. For instance: why is the flourishing of one species more moral than another? Why is homicide morally wrong but a lion killing another lion not morally wrong?

Atheist Honesty & Evidence For God

Between Autonomy and Nature where is the wiggle room for a standard of morality in a human society "working"?
  13. The Debatinator

Atheist Honesty & Evidence For God

I made a flowchart of the typical run of this argument. Atheists ask direct proof or sceintific evidence of God, though being immaterial, untestable and unrepeatable. At the same time they hold a moral standard that fits much of that criteria - existing without material, testability, or repeatability. Feel free to scrutinize this and help me more accurately approach these thoughts. http://creately.com/diagram/hxoqts6h1/pxgCagovzOHziR0xTORWJN5gmFc%3D (double click on image to open viewing tools on bottom)
